Michael is offering existential therapy sessions. This is a unique opportunity to focus on concepts that are universally applicable to human existence including death, freedom, responsibility, and the meaning of life.

Background

Michael is a qualified, UKCP registered existential therapist. As a Long-term survivor of HIV, he brings over 20 years of both professional and personal experience of working with HIV, mental health and wellbeing.

In 1997, after a successful career as a professional musician playing in Scottish Orchestras, he began volunteering on a AIDS Treatment phone line. As an AIDS activist and member of the European AIDS project, he attended many conferences and remembers proudly marching with HIV + South Africans in Durban, a very significant and historic moment, during the International AIDS conference in 2000.

As he had got more involved and training volunteers and understanding the complexity of talking to people affected by HIV/ AIDS, he had started professional training as a counsellor and completed an introductory certificate to Existential Counselling and Psychotherapy in 1999. Encouraged and excited he carried on and was awarded an MA followed by UKCP registration in 2004.

In 2001 Michael joined Mind as a volunteer counsellor. Once qualified he went on to become the counselling coordinator and later a drop in Worker, Healthy Living project manger and even running the cafe for 6 months during a vacancy.
