The Board of Trustees of HIV Scotland are saddened to announce the imminent departure of Chief Executive, Nathan Sparling.

Nathan joined HIV Scotland as our Head of Policy & Public Affairs in July 2017, and oversaw the campaign to overturn aviation law to allow people living with HIV to train to become commercial airline pilots. He was appointed as Chief Executive in December 2018.

Nathan brought a unique skillset in campaigning. He launched the Generation Zero campaign, supported by Alan Cumming & Lorraine Kelly. He oversaw the implementation of our new branding, website and our #ZeroHIV strategic plan.

Nathan fostered our new service partnerships on the HIV Self Test Scotland with Waverley Care. He also managed the Fast-Tracking Scotland Summit attended by over 450 participants.

Nathan will leave HIV Scotland in January, to take up an exciting new role as a Director at a communications agency based in Scotland.

Commenting, Dr Nicoletta Policek said:

“HIV Scotland has a 25 year legacy of incredible human rights informed work that is informed and lead by people living with and at risk of HIV. The HIV Scotland Board are grateful for Nathan’s contribution to the HIV movement, especially in growing the reach of our work, such as through our Generation Zero strategy. We wish Nathan all the best in his future endeavours.”

Nathan Sparling added:

“It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of HIV Scotland over the last three and a half years. Leading through change has brought with it exceptional challenges and many personal development opportunities. I’m very proud of the team at HIV Scotland, and to the movement we have supported.

“It is very humbling to have played a part in that, and I want to pay particular thanks to Nicoletta as the Chair of the Board, our staff, volunteers, Community Advisory Network, and partners across the third sector and within healthcare for all they have done to make this job so rewarding.”

HIV Scotland will begin the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive shortly. Nicoletta can be contacted on [email protected] if anyone has any questions.
